Breed

Retriever, Black Labrador / Shepherd

Sex

Male

Age

13 Years and 1 Month old

Blackey is a dream. When he hears a squeaky toy, he will do a very gruff old man howly-bark.
I’m not sure that he’s pleased with the sound considering he doesn’t play with toys. It seems to
annoy
him. He hasn’t played with balls or toys while in his foster home.  He loves to NAP but he still has spunk and energy. He loves to wiggle on a carpet or the dog bed and kick his legs out
rolling back and forth. He is extremely sweet, mellow, like cotton candy.  He will lay down in front of
you to get pets and a belly rub. He is also not a very vocal dog.
Children: either no kids, OR, he would prefer mature children that are respectful of an older dog in the
home.
He is a petite frame, small stature dog and absolutely cannot handle rough housing at age 13.
Blackey is very dog friendly and likes the company of other calm dogs, but again,
prefers a calmer, like-energy dog.
He is a submissive dog, not an Alpha Dog. He is not rambunctious and won’t correct or give boundaries. He is easily corrected with simply saying his name and NO.

Blackey has been with other dogs his entire life including in his foster home. I strongly believe he likes other dogs, and their company, but not convinced he would need to have a doggie companion in the home, especially if you are there to hang with him 😊
Sweet Blackey came from an extreme hoarding situation but bears no real scars from the first 13 years of his life. He is nervous in thunderstorms and we assume with firecrackers as well. Most dogs are, so it would be best to make those times as comfy and calm as possible for him ;)
He is a dream boy, looking for a dream family! Hopefully you get to adopt him and give him the BESt FUREVER EVER!!!

Something to Consider:

  • Puppies don't train themselves

If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.

Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.

  • Puppies turn into dogs...
