<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rehoming a pet is a significant decision that should not be taken lightly. Before making this choice, there are several things that a person should consider and do to ensure that they are making the best decision for their pet&#8217;s well-being.</span></p>


Rehome Your Pet

<p>It is your obligation to let your new dog/puppy know what the rules are in your home. It is not a “if” it is a constant need. Teach the puppy how to be your best friend and what you like and what you don’t like- start immediately and be consistent and patient.</p>

<p>If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.</p>


Puppies don't train themselves

<p>This is going to happen every time and incredibly fast. Please, the next time you have the thought, “I want a puppy!” replace the word “PUPPY” with “DOG.”</p>

<p>If your excitement goes down, even the slightest amount, don’t get a puppy.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The average lifespan for a dog is 12 years. The wondrous smell of puppy breath only last a few months. This means you have waaay more time owning a dog than a puppy. We frequently have puppies returned to us for a variety of reasons. Often this results in an extremely adoptable 8 week old puppy being returned a few months later as an 8 month old train-wreck.</p>
